Artsy Autumn

October 22 – December 5, 2015

This juried exhibit features works from 21 artists from around the North Shore and eastern Massachusetts. In total over 25 artists submitted 54 artworks for the juror’s consideration. ArcWorks would like to thank all of the artists who submitted their work – without their participation  exhibits like this would not be possible.

ArcWorks would also like to thank our esteemed juror:

Erin Becker, The Norma Jean Calderwood Director of the Cambridge Art Association

Juror’s Statement:

As a longtime New Englander, Autumn is a bittersweet but beautiful season – a last breath before the deep dive into New England winter. Autumn has always been my favorite season, filled with experiences worth looking forward to year-round. Artsy Autumn provides a wide-ranging vision of Autumn in New England.

I was particularly taken with the way a handful of artists interpreted the theme and embraced the autumnal theme. The sensual stain of Jeannie Motherwell’s paintings evoke the change of seasons – fall color, a balance of warmth with the impending chill, slicked over a ground of winter white. Like the first frost over newly fallen leaves. Meanwhile, Jessica Aye’s brightly textural palette is a welcome respite, a reminder of the inevitable approach of summer. And James Bostick’s photo of the House of Seven Gables in Salem is all mystery and shadows. Everything – the shadows, the infrared technique printed on metal – is perfect.

It was a great pleasure for me to select work for Artsy Autumn; I thank each artist who submitted work to the exhibit, and to the 20+ artists featured on the walls at the Arc Works Community Art Center.
